World View is a mini docuseries from The Generation, UCLA’s student foreign affairs magazine. The project pairs extensive archival research with first-hand expertise from government agencies, advocacy groups, and field researchers to cover IR issues shaping our world. ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Sophia Kaufman is passionate about equal healthcare access and quality locally and globally. In her home community in West Virginia, she has worked with the Department of Health and Human Resources Bureau for Public Health and the WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, focusing on opioid addiction and drug rehabilitation. Internationally, she has worked with an NGO in Tanzania, combatting HIV/AIDS as a researcher and educator and in South Africa researching water quality and access. She has also worked for the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis (TB), and Malaria (through the Monitoring and Evaluation Country Analysis team within the Strategy, Investment and Impact Division) and with the World Health Organization (WHO) in the Evidence for Health and Well-Being in Context (EHC) team. Most recently, she worked in Dhaka, Bangladesh with the BRAC James P. Grant School of Public Health on projects related to anti-human trafficking. Sophia Kaufman majored in social anthropology with a minor in global health and health policy at Harvard University and in 2019 received a master’s in Medical Anthropology from the University of Cambridge.
