Etel Solingen

Etel Solingen is Thomas T. and Elizabeth C. Tierney Chair in Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of California Irvine, Chair of the UCLA Burkle Center's Faculty Advisory Board, and President of the International Studies Association. Dr. Solingen has previously served as the Chair of the Steering Committee of the University of California’s Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation, President of the American Political Science Association’s (APSA) International History and Politics Section, and President of the International Studies Association’s International Political Economy Section. She is also the recipient of the APSA’s Excellence in Mentorship Award, a Distinguished Teaching Award from UC Irvine’s Academic Senate, and a MacArthur Foundation Research and Writing Award on Peace and International Cooperation. Dr. Solingen currently serves as Review Essay Editor for the journal International Organization.

Her book Nuclear Logics: Contrasting Paths in East Asia and the Middle East (Princeton University Press) is the recipient of the 2008 Woodrow Wilson Foundation Award for the best book on government, politics, or international affairs by the APSA, and of the 2008 APSA’s Robert Jervis and Paul Schroeder Award for the Best Book on International History and Politics. She is also the author of Sanctions, Statecraft, and Nuclear Proliferation, (Cambridge University Press), Regional Orders at Century's Dawn: Global and Domestic Influences on Grand Strategy (Princeton University Press), Industrial Policy, Technology, and International Bargaining: Designing Nuclear Industries in Argentina and Brazil (Stanford University Press) and editor of Scientists and the State (University of Michigan Press). Her articles on international relations theory, international political economy, comparative politics, institutional theory, comparative regionalism, democratization, and international security appeared in the American Political Science Review, Comparative Politics, International Security, International Studies Quarterly, Global Governance, Journal of Democracy, Journal of Peace Research, Journal of Theoretical Politics, and International Relations of Asia-Pacific, among others.
