A book talk in Persian by Kambiz Navai, Shahid Beheshti University, Iran
Kambiz Navai received his Master of Architecture in 1978 from the National University (now Shahid Beheshti), in Tehran, Iran. He is a faculty member and Chair of the Department of Architecture in the School of Architecture and Urban Design of the Shahid Beheshti University. His extensive study and publications on Iranian Islamic architecture was recently culminated in a volume entitled Khesht-o Khiāl (published by Shahid Beheshti University in partnership with Soroush Publishing Corporation), which offers a new interpretation of Iran’s architecture of the Islamic era and the underlying concepts and creativity of its architects. Just recently, this book received the “Book of the Year” national award. As part of his architectural practice, Professor Navai has designed, created and consulted master plans for some major cultural and educational centers and university campuses such as the Farhangestan in Tehran. His long time business partner in Naghsh Consulting (also known as Kambiz), is a member of the faculty of the School of Architecture at the SBU and also a collaborator on the book. The presentation on this book at CNES-UCLA will be illustrated by photographs on extensive floor plans and geometric drawings of different characteristics of Iranian architecture such as the use of color, patterns, landscaping and calligraphy.
