WebsiteLia Brozgal earned a BA in French from Chatham College and an AM and PhD--both in Romance Languages and Literatures--from Harvard University. Before joining the faculty at UCLA in 2008, she was an appointed lecturer in History and Literature at Harvard University.
Her research and teaching encompass a variety of topics in Francophone North Africa as well as contemporary French literature, history and culture. Recent projects include her monograph on Tunsian writer Albert Memmi (see below), in addition to articles on North African cinema, beur (or immigrant) cultural productions, chronicles of the Holocaust in North Africa, and early 20th-century Judeo-Tunisian literature.
